Modlitwa is a Catholic prayer app for Android and iOS that invites you to a short prayer before you open the apps that distract you. This page answers the most common questions. If it does not answer yours, write to us.

Contact: devas.app.company@gmail.com. Please say whether you use Android or iPhone and which app version you have. You can write in English or Polish.

Do I have to pay?

The prayer book, the word for today, the streak and the daily reminder are free with no time limit. Blocking apps requires Modlitwa Plus: a yearly subscription, which for new subscribers starts with three days free, or a weekly one. You see the current price in the app before buying.

How does blocking work?

Android: you choose the apps in Modlitwa. When you open one of them, the prayer screen appears first. After you pray, the apps unlock for an hour, or for 5, 15 or 30 minutes if you choose a shorter window. Blocking needs two permissions: the accessibility service and displaying over other apps. The app guides you through turning them on.

iPhone: you choose the apps in Apple's Screen Time window. When a chosen app is blocked, open Modlitwa, read the prayer and finish with the Amen button. Then you can return to the app. Blocking requires Screen Time (Family Controls) permission, which you can withdraw in the iPhone settings. Schedules depend on the system and may run late. Mass Mode does not silence phone calls.

Does it work without the internet?

The prayer book, the word for today and app blocking work offline. The internet is needed to buy and verify Plus and for the optional online “Prayer with an intention”. The Plus status has to be confirmed online at least once every 72 hours.

Does the app read my screen?

No. On Android the accessibility service recognises only the name of the app in the foreground. It does not read the screen contents, the text you type or your passwords. On iOS blocking uses the system Family Controls mechanism, without access to screen contents. Details: privacy policy.

Where do my intentions go?

The saved “My intentions” history stays on your phone. The separate “Prayer with an intention” feature sends a new entry online only when you press “Prepare prayer”, to prepare the prayer text. It never sends the saved history automatically.

Protection stopped working

On Android, blocking needs the accessibility service and display over other apps to stay enabled. If you turn them off, use “force stop” or “clear memory”, protection stops until you turn it back on; on Samsung phones the system then removes the whole permission. On iOS, protection stops when you withdraw the Screen Time permission. The app tells you plainly when this happens and helps you return to the setup.
